Honoring Diverse Orientations and Genders
Ms Gladys Duran, Curriculum Support Specialist
Division of Student Services

  • The SAFE Network, formerly the Sexual Minority Network, is a program under Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Division of Student Services that educates and creates programs that support the healthy development of our GLBTQ youth. All our schools have a designated liaison who receives specialized professional development focused on building expertise in program development and delivery of these comprehensive services. Our program has been supporting students, parents and school staff for the last 20 years.

  • The mission of the network is to provide school and district employees with the knowledge necessary to build comprehensive and inclusive programs that support all students, including students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (GLBTQ).

  • Program elements include the provision of individual, group, and family counseling services; community resource information; support group and social networking opportunities; and providing or coordinating anti-bullying prevention and educational activities. These services are provided with the focus of increasing resiliency, self-esteem, and school/social/familial supports.
